Sensory Garden
The Master Gardeners of Hunterdon County Sensory Garden team is filled with Rutgers Master Gardener volunteers who are dedicated to providing accessible horticultural information in the community we serve, and have truly reached their dream of expanding the gardening world to those who may not otherwise have access.
To supplement the outdoor garden experience, we designed a variety of educational programs and participative activities for our special needs visitors.
Accompanying hands-on activities like “Miniature Gardens” and “Decorated Pumpkins” provide our visitors with an opportunity to take a memory of the sensory garden home with the pride in being able to say “I made it myself.”
Presentation Team – Garden Talks
Talks covering a variety of garden subjects are created and presented by Rutgers Certified Master Gardeners of Hunterdon County. Topics include: Annuals, Birds in the Garden, Butterfly Miracle, Conifers, Public Gardens of NJ, Wildflowers, and much much more.
The Presentation Team research specific topics that interest them and develop original, illustrated talks.
Each presentation, which includes the opportunity for questions, lasts about an hour.
Our Gardens
- Educational Garden—created as a curb appeal, grounds improvement project that provides a passive educational opportunity for residents visiting the RCE building
- Sensory Garden—easily grown plants with intriguing sounds, interesting textures, varied scents and engaging sights
- Giving Garden—created and maintained to support local Food Pantries in establishing community gardens that would aid in providing fresh fruits and vegetables to Hunterdon County residents, and through produce donations from the RCE onsite garden
