RUTGERS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION OF HUNTERDON COUNTY CELEBRATES 95TH ANNIVERSARY
Local Office Reflects on its History While Continuing to Look Toward the Future
Flemington – This year marks the 95th anniversary of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Hunterdon County.
Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) is the outreach arm of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) housed at Rutgers, the State University of NJ. RCE has offices in each of NJ’s 21 counties, and operates via a partnership between the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the NJAES at the State level, and County Boards of Commissioners.
Since its inception in 1927, RCE of Hunterdon County has been committed to providing research-based information and programming to not only Hunterdon’s agricultural community, but the county as a whole. The Agriculture & Resource Management department assists commercial agriculture operations through research and demonstrations, while Family & Community Health Sciences promotes good nutrition and healthy lifestyles for consumers of all ages. 4-H Youth Development focuses on the positive development of Hunterdon’s young people, with a “learn by doing” philosophy, through a number of different interest clubs. The Rutgers Master Gardener program provides home gardening and landscape education to the public.
Members of the community should be on the lookout for social media posts containing facts and trivia about RCE’s long history on the RCE of Hunterdon County Facebook page (@RCEofHunterdonCounty). The RCE staff also plans an informative display at the annual Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair, which runs from August 24-August 28 at the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds at South County Park in West Amwell, (Physical address: 1207 Route 179 Lambertville, NJ 08530).
